Latinos have served for countless generations in the United States military. Forty-three Latinos have won the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest award in the nation. As of 2007, over one million Latinos were veterans of a branch of the armed forces. In fact, of the active duty members and recently enlisted personnel in all branches of the military, approximately 16 percent were Latinos.
