Cesar Chavez (1927-1993)
Cesar Chavez is one of America’s best known civil rights activists. His family lost their farm during the Great Depression and subsequently moved to California to become migrant farm workers. Chavez later became an organizer of a Latino civil rights movement called the Community Service Organization in 1952. He later co-founded the National Farm Workers Association. He led many peaceful movements to gain rights and bargaining power for farmers.
