Raymond Marquez (1930-Living)
Raymond Marquez, also known as Spanish Raymond, controlled Harlem’s illegal gambling from the 1950s until the early 2000s. As a young delivery boy, he ran bets around the city along with the groceries and the ring he started grew. Marquez used bribes to police in order to hide from the law and it is speculated that he also had an arrangement with the mafia. After a series of trials and jail sentences, Marquez announced that he was retiring. Since then he has spent his time running hotels and dodging taxes.
